Chanel x Elle case study
Luxury brand film Chanel × Elle inspired by N°5 and high jewellery
A film bringing together an iconic fragrance, the brilliance of diamonds, Elle's editorial perspective and the precision of Chanel high jewellery.
Making a drop of fragrance visible
The project
An editorial film connecting fragrance, diamonds and a cultural icon.
The film was created for a feature on N°5, its legacy and a private high jewellery collection inspired by the bottle, the drop, the trail of fragrance, jasmine and rose.
The intention
Reveal the complexity of the jewellery without losing the simplicity of the myth.
The film had to show highly intricate pieces without making them feel cold: clean lines, brilliance, gestures, texture and fluid construction.
“A drop of perfume could have been a diamond.”
This line captures the idea behind the film: creating a dialogue between the intangible nature of fragrance and the physical presence of diamonds.
The visual challenge
Precise geometry, still alive on screen.
The story hinges on a central tension: the diamonds are exceptionally white, yet full of life. The camera had to preserve that energy.
Production
A luxury brand film shot in Paris.
What the film explores
N°5 at the crossroads of an era, a personality and an object.
The story touches on Marilyn Monroe, Warhol, French chic, the Chanel woman and the way an icon emerges from the meeting of a point of view, an era and a form. For a brand film, this cultural context gives the product depth without reducing it to a sales demonstration.
The direction therefore had to remain understated and close to the materials and gestures, with particular attention to rhythm, detail and light. The aim was to create a luxury brand film suited to an editorial feature, brand communication and digital distribution.
From scent to diamond
The Chanel x Elle film is more than a product video. It is a luxury brand story built around a symbol: N°5, the legendary fragrance associated with Marilyn Monroe, French chic and a powerful collective memory.
The high jewellery collection draws on the bottle’s visual codes: straight lines, geometry, transparency, the drop and the trail of fragrance. On screen, these elements become close-up details, reflections, slow movements and moments of breathing room.
The directing challenge was to film each diamond as a living material. The story explores this contrast: a stone may appear white, almost cold, yet reveal a hypnotic depth when it catches the light.
This type of content answers a precise need: a high-end brand film that holds attention, respects the world of a luxury house and remains clear across websites, editorial features and social media.
A process built for exacting brands
A luxury film needs more than beautiful images. Its tone, perspective, editing and delivery all have to feel precise and consistent with the platform.
Preparation
Understand the brand codes before filming.
Reviewing the editorial story, scouting locations, identifying the materials to film and defining a visual approach consistent with Chanel and Elle.
Filming
Create precise, discreet and refined imagery.
Tight framing, details, gestures, reflections and careful lighting give the jewellery presence without overstating the effect.
Post-production
Shape a short story that retains a sense of mystery.
Editing, colour grading, sound design and multiple deliverables preserve the editorial character of the film while meeting digital needs.
