The project
An immersive sports film at an international regatta.
The film follows the Dragon class in Port Camargue, with experienced crews, high sporting standards, 11 races and an international field.
The intention
Show the sport and the values behind the event.
The film had to convey teamwork on board, fair play between competitors and the experience offered to the young guests invited by Orphéopolis.

The visual challenge
Make a fast-moving sailing event easy to follow.
On the water, the challenge was to capture the boats, crews, racing conditions and sporting intensity while keeping the story clear.

What the film explores
A regatta earning international recognition.
The story highlights the quality of the sailing area, the international teams, the high level of competition and the importance of three-person teamwork aboard a Dragon.
The film also follows the human side of the event: Orphéopolis, young people who have lost a police-officer parent, the warm atmosphere ashore and the joy of discovering the sea, the boats and the competition.
From the racecourse to the human story
Dragons en Camargue follows both the racing and what happened around it. Port Camargue provided the setting for an international regatta with strong sailing conditions and room for the public to follow the event.
The story gives space to the crews, the technical nature of the Dragon class, collective effort and competitors from France, Switzerland, Russia, Australia and other countries.
The Orphéopolis element adds another layer: the young guests discover sailing, competition and the sea in a supportive atmosphere.
The final film needed to cover the competition, the location, the partners and the human story without reducing the event to race results.
How I filmed the event
A sailing film requires preparation, a strong understanding of the location and the ability to tell both the action and the emotions around the event.
Preparation
Identify the sporting and human stakes.
Understanding the regatta, the participants, the role of Orphéopolis, the key moments on the water and the scenes to capture ashore.
Filming
Film from the water and the harbour.
I combined on-board shots, boat tracking, interviews and scenes ashore so the film could move naturally between the racing and the people around it.
Post-production
Shape a clear, well-paced film.
Editing, colour grading, sound design and narrative structure balance competition, sporting values and human emotion.
